The trend over the past four decades has been for less extended family living close by and thus our elderly and youth have less day to day contact. The absence of regular contact and relationship building between generations can create a breeding ground for mistrust and misunderstanding and develops negative attitudes and stereotypes by each age group toward the other.
LINKages Society of Alberta provides important intergenerational exchanges and facilitates positive relationshpps between those who would otherwise not come into contact.
This June it is Intergenerational Month in Canada and LINKages has a number of events taking place throughout the community.
